SOMINIERE combines our significant assets across the mineral rich region of eastern Congo to create the single largest gold-producing complex in Congo, and realize the full potential of these mines through synergies and best-in-class operational improvements. The massive mining operation comprises 9 mines along with its associated infrastructure and processing facilities.
At SOMINIERE, our strong operating results are driven by a focused portfolio of nine mines located in three key provinces: Nord Kivu, Sud Kivu and Maniema.
The Company is continuously reinforcing its mining operations by bringing more and more mines under development. In the next 12 months, the Company’s mining division is targeting a four-fold growth.
For more than a decade, Kivu has been one of the Company’s most prolific regions in terms of gold discoveries and production growth.
Through our group of companies, SOMINIERE has also obtained permission for mining research at 27 potential mining areas for such massive research programmes, we are likely to get associated with reliable foreign collaborators.
Enhancement of the level of mechanization in mining activity is a high priority area identified by the Company. We have already made investments in the mining operations having sophisticated mining and bulk material handling equipment. By such strategic investment, we have been able to revamp production after the conflict. This step is in line with the recognition of the extraordinary measures required to boost production.
Together with its joint ventures, SOMINIERE produces thousands of carats of the rough diamonds per month, and employs over 1,750 people in the cooperatives. Our mining operations in the Oriental Province are a source of large and exotic colored diamonds.
All mining machinery is owned by SOMINIERE and maintained by the SOMINIERE’s Mobile Maintenance department. As part of the Contractor to Owner operate and maintain transition program, ownership and maintenance of the shovels and excavators transitioned to SOMINIERE in December 2019.
SOMINIERE began replacing all its mining fleets in 2018 and by end of 2020, it is expected that 36 Caterpillar 793F trucks will be operational. Four new Caterpillar 6050 loading units have also been commissioned, replacing older contractor operated shovels and excavators.
SOMINIERE has established a reliable supply chain for the sale of rough diamonds. The Trading Desk manages contracts for the supply of rough diamonds to end-users.
The Trading Desk completes commercial reference checks for potential buyers for financial solvency and reliability to adhere to terms & conditions of trade.
